The public meeting will hear which suggestions for the future of the shopping centre were the most popular among residents during the consultation at the end of last year.

A decision on which of the options will be pursued is not likely to be unveiled until a meeting of the Fareham Council Executive in April. But some of the ideas on the table will be revealed at the CAT meeting on March 20.

Chairman of the Western Ward’s Community Action Team Meeting, Councillor Michael Ford said: “During our consultation at the end of last year hundreds of people responded to tell us how they think the district centre should be updated.

“We’ll be giving a presentation on this feedback so people can find out which ideas have been the most popular among the community.

“There’ll be another chance for them to have their say and ask questions about it.”

The redevelopment options – including the provision of a five-lane swimming pool – are likely to be on the agenda for Fareham Council at its executive meeting on April 8.

The consultation outlined two locations on the site in Centre Way with both options including the two-floor leisure and community facilities, as well as a swimming pool – which has been a long standing development aspiration for the Western Wards.

Hundreds of residents attended the consultation on the proposals, which also included two different locations for a new food retailer or remodelling of the existing Co-operative supermarket and around 320 car parking spaces.

Next week’s CAT meeting will also include an update from the police, information about patient transport services in Locks Heath and funding for local projects.

The meeting will be at Locks Heath Free Church in Hunts Pond Road from 7pm on Wednesday March 20.
